Lesson Logistics
I provide 45 minute trial lessons free of charge so that I make sure I am the right fit as a teacher, and my student may be a good fit for my studio and teaching.
Please prepare any needed materials and instruments.
Regular and intentional practicing is expected.
I will provide sheet music, recordings, or other attachments related to further music opportunities.
If needing to cancel or reschedule, kindly give 24 hours in advance. I will respect your time and do the same for you if I may need to cancel or reschedule.
In the event I am unable to attend, I will schedule a make-up in a similar time and format.
Expect from me: energy, any sheet music or materials, and possible loanable strings/accessories. Punctual arrival and expert demonstrations.
I may ask students to be able to use a large mirror, headphones, and purchase the app: TonalEnergy. They will be helpful in my pedagogy methods.
I drive and teach in the student’s home. I provide virtual lessons as well. I am flexible over format.
During your lesson
Be courageous!
Don’t apologize for making mistakes, you aren’t wrong yourself.
Have fun! I will try my best to make sure our lessons are personable, insightful, and helpful. And, most of all, not boring.
Write down any important notes; have a pencil nearby!
Take care of yourself. Bring your water, tea, coffee to our lessons and make sure to tend to any other needs you may have. Your well-being is my priority.
Expect to learn a lot! I believe in high expectation, high support learning environments. I will push my students, but give them ample and constant support.
Take initiative! If you find pieces, want to compose, or play duets/chamber music, let’s find a way together!
My goal is to combine Galamian/Viennese tradition with Dorothy DeLay and Michael Tree warmth. Expect to hear stories and play scales.
Testimonials
“Elijah doesn’t just teach you how to hit notes, he teaches you how to bring music to life. He helped me fix fundamental bow hand tension, master tricky shifting, and audition successfully into my school’s Chamber Orchestra and a local youth orchestra. He’s positive, encouraging, super flexible, and genuinely cares about taking your playing to the next level. If you've hit a plateau or want to smash your next audition, I can’t recommend Elijah enough!”
